Swimming Home

A film by Justin Anderson

An adaptation of cult author Deborah Levy’s provocative and uncanny novel about love, loss and longing.

Swimming Home stars Christopher Abbot (Wolfman, Poor Things), Mackenzie Davis (Speak No Evil, Station Eleven), Arianne Labed (The Brutalist, The Lobster), Nadine Labaki (Capernaum) and new-comer Freya Hannan-Mills

Josef and his war correspondent partner Isabel find a naked stranger floating in the pool of their holiday villa. When Isabel unexpectedly invites the stranger to stay – her presence takes root, the gaps between the family members grow and Joe must confront the childhood memories he has locked away for so many years.

Why has the stranger come and is she even real?

Set against the dazzling beauty of an Aegean summer, the truth inside this story is that like life – nothing can be expected.

Anderson’s film adaptation is a bold and striking adaptation and was shot on location to the south of Athens, Greece. Anderson says “I wanted to make a version of Levy’s book that examined the slippery and unresolved world she creates. To make a filmic world which possesses those mysterious uneven feelings where you can’t quite put your finger on what is wrong; to me that is where realism lies. Where beauty and disquiet rub alongside each other.”
